PSCC Meeting May 15: Searching for the Ship of Gold

We are delighted to offer a real adventure with quite a nautical history, Searching for the SS Central America.

The sinking of the wooden hull steamship, the SS Central America, during an East Coast hurricane in 1857 was America’s worst peacetime sea disaster, claiming a loss of 425 lives and over 3 tons of California gold. Alan Scott, a young member of the Columbus America Discovery Group was the sonar expert who discovered the ship in 1988. The adventure recovering the gold treasure from America’s past is even more complex! PSCC member Alan Scott will highlight this adventure with undersea video, images of marine life, shipwreck artifacts and recovered treasures.

Please join us at 6:30 the Puget Sound Yacht Club – Yes the meeting starts at 7PM!

  • When: Friday, May 15th, 2026 at 6:30pm PDT.
  • Where: Puget Sound Yacht Club | 2321 N Northlake Way, Seattle, WA 98103
  • Google Maps directions
  • Bring snacks to share if you can. . .

Also, at 5:00 pm before meetings, some PSCC members typically get together at Ivar’s Salmon House for happy hour dinner. The more people that come, the merrier, and the more tables we push together. Look for us towards the windows in the bar section. Ivar’s is ½ mile NE of the yacht club on the same street and has parking lots.
